Gis - Hearst Corporation
Vegetation Mapping, McCloud, California
|
VESTRA has worked with the Hearst Corporation for a number of years to develop and maintain their GIS system, including layers representing vegetation, streams, roads, contours, soils, and field inventory plots for Hearst's 50,000 acres in the mixed conifer vegetation southeast of McCloud. During one winter, VESTRA was contracted by Hearst to remap their vegetation layer. VESTRA purchased Landsat imagery, identified classification training sites via aerial photointerpretation and consultations with Hearst foresters, classified the satellite imagery, and worked further with aerial photographs and Hearst foresters to refine the classification. Hearst installed field inventory plots based on this vegetation map, with plot statistics indicating the mapping effort was very successful. |
