Biological Assessments
Fogarty Burn Dump, Chico, California
|
The Fogarty (Humboldt) Burn Dump was a collection of adjacent public and private historic burn dumps totaling about 157 acres in Chico. The site included an existing vernal pool and slough. VESTRA was contracted to complete comprehensive biological assessments to obtain permitting prior to starting remediation activities. VESTRA completed several assessments, including a comprehensive bird-of-prey survey report, a Draft Environmental Impact Report, and a Final Environmental Impact Report. The assessments identified three federally listed species that could be impacted by the proposed site activities, and VESTRA staff biologists recommended conservation measures to avoid or offset this potential impact. VESTRA coordinated permitting with state and federal agencies, including California Department of Fish and Game, US Army Corps of Engineers, California Department of Toxic Substances Controll, State Water Resources Control Board, and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. |
