Culvert Inventory Mobile GIS Implementation

 VESTRA has supported several Mobile GIS projects for the City of Redding to manage city-infrastructure assets. Key services provided by VESTRA have included:
VESTRA also created a custom ArcPad tool for use within ArcPad to aid in auto zooming and culvert location. A culvert inspection inventory was performed to acquire data on the condition, contents, and status of each culvert within the City limits. Field crews used mobile GIS software (ArcPad) loaded on Windows CE devices to fill out forms on the 6, 250 inlets and 1,480 outfalls in the system. The project was initially expected to take nine months to complete, but was accomplished in three months due to using Mobile GIS technology. Mobile GIS has replaced the paper-based field collection tasks previously performed by the City resulting in added efficiency. Projects currently in process or slated to begin in the near future include a Citywide sign inventory program. |
