Ditch Piping, Intake Structure, and Fish Screen
The Brown-Grover Ditch diverts water from a side channel of Old Cow Creek. The Western Shasta RCD obtained a grant to replace the existing structures. The completed designs include a new concrete flashboard intake structure with a fish screen and approximately 5,000 feet of ditch piping. The first phase of the project has been completed; the second phase is awaiting agency approval. VESTRA performed topographic surveying, project design, and preparation of contract documents. Construction Quality Assurance inspection will be provided for the project following construction.
Prior to project initiation, piping feasibility analyses were conducted for five open-channel irrigation ditches in the Cow Creek Watershed. In addition to water losses, the ditches are subject to blowouts, slides, and unstable geologic conditions which increase sediment loading. The efficiency of the ditches, and the size and type of pipe to be used at each location were identified by the feasibility studies.
