VESTRA and StreamWise teamed to implement the Shaw Ranch Streambank Stabilization Project in coordination with the Pit RCD. The project was identified as a ‘priority project’ because of degraded channel condition, aquatic and riparian habitat, and water quality. The project included stabilizing approximately 1,300 feet of streambank. 

 

The project site was subjected to high flood flows during the first winter after construction and held up beyond expectation. VESTRA and StreamWise worked with the landowners throughout the analysis, design, and implementation phases of the project to ensure that existing farming and ranching objectives were met. The project has proved to be a large-scale demonstration site for educational and outreach purposes for the Pit RCD as well as serves as an example of a collaborative project that resulted in a solution to a widespread issue along the Pit River.
