Federal Land Transfer

Carson Lake and Pasture
Carson Lake, Nevada

VESTRA staff conducted an environmental site assessment of the 30,000 acre Carson Lake and Pasture outside Fallon, Nevada. Site ownership was being transferred from the Bureau of Land Management to the State of Nevada. The public Carson Lake and Pasture provides water-righted farmers and ranchers in the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District a place to graze their livestock during the summer. This area is considered an important stop for migratory birds, a well-known bird-watching location, and popular hunting destination. Because of its biological importance, a number of studies have been conducted on and around the property by government agencies, such as the USGS, to assess the agricultural runoff which feeds the wetlands. VESTRA utilized air surveys to reduce project cost and decrease turnaround, completing the assessment ahead of schedule.
