Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility
Asset Management Workflow Review
VESTRA provided Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility (AWWU) with an assessment of their geographic information system (GIS) and Maximo (MRO Software, Inc.) integration workflow environment. VESTRA performed a technical evaluation, reviewing the business processes, data models, and IT practices from the perspective of VESTRA’s knowledge of the GIS/IT industry as it applies to water utilities. The intent of the assessment was to determine where AWWU may have departed from mainstream practices and make recommendations as to specific steps AWWU might need to take to make adjustments and move forward with its IT development.
VESTRA first conducted an onsite review of the existing asset management workflows. The review consisted of a series of onsite meetings and personnel interviews that engaged management and end users in discussions regarding the workflow and data models that would reveal any areas of concern.
After conducting the onsite review, VESTRA provided AWWU with an Asset Management Workflow Review Report, which provided an assessment of AWWU’s workflows and GIS data model as compared to other utilities and recommended steps to remedy any issues discovered and presented technical alternatives as applicable. The document was well-received by both the Engineering and IT departments at AWWU.
