Now Hiring - Seasonal Biological Technician

VESTRA Resources Inc. is seeking an energetic, self-motivated individual to join our environmental services team as a seasonal biological technician. We are looking for a well-organized, fast-paced, problem solver. This is a seasonal, full-time (40 hours/week) position starting immediately and continuing through September, with a possible extension through year end. This position will require overtime and may require occasional weekend hours. This is not a remote position; this position will report to our office location in Redding, CA with travel required for field assignments.

Primary duties include implementation of biological field work in support of projects, conducting biological habitat evaluations, surveys and studies for special-status plans and/or animals, construction monitoring, preparation of environmental regulatory compliance documents and technical reports.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. with a major in Biology, Botany, Fisheries, Wildlife Wildlife, Botany, Fisheries or related discipline required.

  • Zero (0) to two (2) years’ experience in related field. Applicants with additional professional experience may be considered for a higher classification of Regulatory Biologist.

  • Experience with biological field data collection, reporting, and statistical technique, use of identification keys (e.g. dichotomous keys), orienteering with topographic maps and aerial photos, ability to locate positions and plot locations in difficult steep terrain, familiarity with global positioning systems (GPS) electronic data recorders, iPad, or similar, basic use of ArcGIS, and reporting preferred.

  • An understanding of permitting and project processes and knowledge of Federal and State of California laws and regulations (CWA, NEPA, CEQA, ESA, and CESA) is a plus.

  • Excellent written communication skills, ability to interact with clients, and good people skills.

  • Ability to work in a group as well as independently.

  • Good organizational skills, ability to thrive in a fast-paced, challenging work environment; excellent at problem solving, and ability to think outside of the box.

  • Must be physically and mentally capable of working in a wide range of physical and environmental conditions (off trail rugged hiking, camping, remote locations). This position may include individual/solo field assignments, and there will be potential for overnights in remote locations.

  • Ability to lift and move approximately 50 lbs., work in the field, operate a 4x4 truck and ATV, and operate and calibrate field measurement equipment.
